Hi, I've decided to start up this group as I love reading and I think it would be great to meet like-minded women who live "over the bridge" in Sydney ; lower north / NorWest/ Parramatta and would like to have a good read and engage in healthy debate over a glass of wine and nice nosh, or a coffee and piece of cake. We don't want to get too formal, but the "rules" are that one person chooses a book (can be anything, the more varied the better!) and we all read it before meeting up. The meet woul …
Hi, I've decided to start up this group as I've just moved to Sydney and I'd like to meet some new people who enjoy reading and discussing a book with a glass of wine!! I was doing this with a group of friends back in London and it was great fun! Also new to Meetup but it looks like a good way to meet people but I just can’t see a central Sydney book club. How it worked (although open to ideas): One person suggests a book - preferably something a little difference not off a top 50 list. We all r …
The Last Tuesday Book Club is an informal group of reading fans who catch up monthly in inner city Sydney to eat/drink and chat about a good book. We are mainly 30-something professionals, who enjoy reading a wide range of fiction. Our meet ups are a chance to talk about our latest read (pre-chosen) while checking out pubs/restaurants once a month in the City, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, and eastern suburbs areas.
Established in 2006, we are book-lovers who meet in the Sydney CBD. We usually meet the first week of the month, on Mondays or Tuesdays from 6:30pm to discuss this month's book. We choose venues that are 5-10mins walk Central or any of the Sydney CBD train stations. Most members are 30-45 years and enjoy reading a variety of books, including fiction, non-fiction and book-to-film adaptions. The group jointly selects books to read every three months. To keep members costs down, we generally favour …
It's a friendly and intelligent group of interesting people who love to get together to have a drink and a chat. There's a great core of regulars and always new additions each month who bring their own suggestions and love of reading... We try to fold in book events, readings and authors visiting, smaller clusters of people who are writers, or like specific genres as well - If you have any suggestions please post a note on our discussion board or send us a message.
There are no upcoming Meetups.
This group is for those who enjoy reading food related books... along the lines of Michael Pollan, Paul Roberts, etc. We can definitely expand the areas of interest to address how food relates to both health and economy. I'd love to aim to read a book every 1-2 months.
If you like to talk/discuss/share ideas about philosophy, art, culture, poetry, classical music, literature, history, exhibitions, mythologies, story readings, movie nights and courses; you're welcome to our forthnightly meetings.
A quirky relaxed group that gathers monthly to drink copious amounts of coffee/chai/tea and have interesting conversations on the latest read. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month. The books we discuss vary month-to-month and include fiction & non-fiction - memoirs, trashy page-turners, adventure/thriller, philosophy, fantasy, history etc. So if you're keen to meet up with open-minded down to earth individuals, come along! All welcome :)
Green Eggs & Hemingway - A Book Club for bookaholics from the Ghetto/Bronx/Hood (yes, us punks and hipsters from the 'under-appreciated' part of town are ready, willing and able to read - don't look so shocked!) with an Incurable Love for Literature (and the like).
Preliminary investigations have lead me to conclude that there is a lack of (if any) established institutions/societies/communities/
clubs (whatever you want to call it) in the South Western Sydney region where bookaholics can congre …

… I am an avid reader of philosophy, my constant self mental struggle during that reading process is that Philosophy as a serious study subject contains so much knowledge about humanity ( history, science, psychology etc). There are so much reading to do before you really start to feel a grip on the subject. So what is a more efficient process to start this wonderful and enjoyable journey? THIS IS THE SOLE INTENT OF THIS PHILOSOPHY STUDY MEETUP, LET'S STUDY ONE PHILOSOPHER AT A TIME (AT A MEETING) …
… A simple question before reading the rest: Why do you come to the meetup? Just to meet people you never met before, or come to attend high quality intellectual fine culture events where you might meet people who have the same interests; if the answer is former, then you will be disappointed as this is not what we are good at, if it's the later, then keep reading. Though this is a private group, all applications are considered and your interests are highly appreciated; meanwhile we kindly ask you …
… Truth, is discovered by questions, observation, reading, listening, discussions, reasoning, experimentation, testing, and debate amongst many others. Clinton has been creating a series of workbooks for the last 4 years and have been testing it on various people. This workbook will continue to evolve and change over time as he continues to test and update the contents of the workbooks. The creation of these workbooks was initially for Clinton's learning. I've created this group as an opportunity for anxiety/panic sufferers to meet up and share their experiences, advice, knowledge and support to others who may be going through the same thing and would benefit from knowing that they are not alone with this dreadful black cloud over their lives. I myself am a panic attack sufferer and as a result have read several books and vast materials online, practised therapies and techniques such as ‘belly breathing’ to help me along my journey of overcoming …

You might ask yourself why should I pay $20 ? - the organizers own personal time is given up to host these events, administrative and advertising costs plus you get …
Ever felt that smug glow of satisfaction when watching a film adaptation of a novel you've read, basking in the knowledge that you're fully aware of the hero's pet dog's name even though it was never once mentioned in the movie?!? Welcome to the club! This group is a hybrid mix of a book club and a movie fan club. We read a new book every month, whether it be a classic work of fiction or a more contemporary novel, and then we meet up to watch its film adaptation at a cinema in the city. We then …
