… Writers who want to read their own work are encouraged to do so; those who'd rather just listen without reading are also welcome. Some events we can devote to a theme (e.g. ghosts and gothic writing in October, opening passages), but much of the time it'll just be "pot luck."
Do you love theatre? Do you enjoy reading plays? This group is for people who enjoy -- or suspect they might enjoy -- reading plays aloud with others. We'll be meeting in a public place once a month, most likely on Sunday afternoons, to read an entire play together. No experience is necessary; a love of plays is the only requirement.

We are a group of mothers with babies and toddlers who enjoy reading just about anything. We operate like a standard book club, but we bring our babies to our meetings with us. We all do! We read books, but we also read articles, listen to books on tape, etc. Mothers with babies or toddlers are welcome to come to meetings with your infants. What a convenient way to both care for your child (nurse them too if you like!) and talk about grown-up books at the same time! As of April 2012 our mee …

… This is a great chance for everyone to reflect on thoughts about the book, what they liked and disliked and any "ah ha" moments that came from reading the book. Everyone will have a different opinion and there are certainly no right or wrong answers. There's nothing better than seeing how the same book can bring up such diverse thoughts for different people! The conversation is generally open, casual and people are very friendly and open minded. Our regular venue Casa Americo is an Italian p …

Two of the greatest joys in life....eating and reading. Join us for one or the other....or both! Has it been years since you read a book? Or do you go through a book in less than a week? For the book club, the goal is to keep the group small, to ensure all members can participate on a regular basis. We meet once a month on a weeknight. "Saturday Supper Club" explores the restaurants in our local area. It's an opportunity to try all that Burlington and the surrounding area has to offer with fe …

This book club is based in South Central Oakville but any lady is welcome to join if they live very close by (must live in Oakville). The only other criteria is: you like to read and to socialize. As we meet at one another's homes for the meetups, we keep the membership local and small so it's easy for members to get to other members' homes. Please only join if you intend on being an active member and live in Oakville. I'd like the reading to have a positive, fun, funny or even enlighteni …

… “Deeply engaged reading leads to perceptual awakening, stimulation of the core of the intuitive and experiential . . . What reading and writing can teach us is a deeper empathy that leads us to desire the best for others who are entirely different from us, and to long to communicate with them.” - Makoto Fujimura, “Refractions #26: The Epistle of Van Gogh”
This group is a book club with a twist. It is a book club for writers. Why are some books popular? What makes them bestsellers? What can we as writers learn from these books? I started this book club because traditional book clubs are too vanilla for me. If you are a committed writer, then this meetup is for you. Each month, we will chose a work of fiction and examine it from the perspective of a writer (and not from the perspective of an English literature professor). The idea is to find inspir …
