Girly Gatherings is a group of women in their 20s and 30s who live or work in and around the Reading area. We're all all keen to make friends, meet new people and try new things- after all nothing beats a chat and a laugh over a glass of wine with good girlfriends! We love nothing better than meeting up for girly gatherings- we've done everything from ceroc dancing and cupcake decorating to live comedy and dinners out, with a few drinks along the way. The group is organised by Alexis, Lucy a …
We're slowly making our way through the Guardian's list of 1000 novels everyone must read, which covers novels about love, crime, comedy, family and self, state of the nation, science fiction and fantasy, and war and travel. We work our way through the categories each month, and invite members to nominate books from the list. Once nominations have been received, all members vote for their choice. The book club is for people living in and around Chiswick, as well as those who don't mind travell …
I set this up as I need more motivation to read regularly !! If you are reading this, you probably do too !! Plus I would like to meet other readers to chat about the last book read - and what better place than in one of Henley's fine venues over a glass of something ! I see myself as the club founder not the leader, so choosing the book and the venue rotates across us all ... For the moment we feel we have enough members, as a Book Club can only be so big, as since setting this up in Jan 2011 …

In the past few years, my personal love and appreciation for a top quality curry has grown a little out of control. Therefore, rather than attempt to tame this particular desire, I thought 2011 would represent a great opportunity to pull a together a group of people from Reading and the surrounding area and attempt to work our way through the local offerings. On a serious note, aside from sharing our opinions on the culinary delights that await us, I am hoping this will be a good chance to meet …

Let's eat and drink at great venues, meet new friends who live nearby and enrich our minds at the same time! This group has a local focus and is designed for people living in the vicinity of Hampton Court/Teddington. We'll read one book a month and then meet up at a regular time to discuss it. We'll meet at an interesting, new local restaurant, pub or café, or at people's homes if they're willing to make it festive with a few snacks and drinks! Book selection will rotate among the members, and …
There are few book groups in the area but they seem to be quite spiritual and intellectual. This club is a chance for like minded people to meet and discuss any topic of book we like. Every month, the group will decide on which book to read and we will meet once a month to discuss what we thought.

We organise trips to the Vue cinema in the Oracle, Reading to see latest release films, usually with a meal beforehand and drinks after. We are also a place for people to suggest and announce other social events like theatre or comedy night trips. If you have an idea for an event you'd like to have listed on this site, please let me know. You should have a date and venue in mind (not just a vague idea that you'd like someone to run something) and you have to be sure that you (or some other nam …

I decided to start the London voice Over Group, because there appear to be so few resources we can use to better our skills that could be 'freely' given, ie., constructive critiques of each other's voice work, etc. Though there are internet sites which offer script reading, and indeed competitions, like Edge Studios, there is nothing quite like the energy and enthusiasm of a group who can listen to each others work, be inspired and supported by actually meeting up regularly as a group of like m …

… I don't think Starbucks is a particularly good venue for a poetry workshop, and as hiring a room in an arts centre is expensive, I propose holding the workshop in my flat in Reading. I hope this will make the workshop accessible to poets in London and Oxford (Reading is less than half an hour on the train from both these places, and my flat is 10 minutes walk from the station) as well as those in Reading.
This workshop-style group focuses on writing for performance: play- and screenwriting, radio drama and monologues. A lively group where work is read aloud and then discussed in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We've been meeting since 2008 on the first Monday of the month in Ealing to hear scenes being read. We are trialing a second monthly meeting in Soho. Occasionally we also have an interim meeting to discuss full length scripts. You are invited to upload around 10mins of script (usuall …
Although called Caversham Critics, this book group is open to all friendly Reading based fiction lovers. We shall explore old and modern classics, contemporary fiction, and perhaps even pretend to be judges by comparing our notes on the shortlists for the big literary prizes. We aim to meet monthly in a pub in central Reading. We are just getting started, so if the club sounds like your cup of tea, don't hesitate, join and spread the word!
