We're making reading and literature a social activity. In this group, we'll gather for 'independent reading' time, outdoors when possible. The idea is very simple. Meet up, read together for a while and then follow up with discussion, reading suggestions and general mingling. We'll also have 'literature-focused' events on occasion in which we hike, bike picnic, etc. adjusting activities in the colder months of course - all revolved around literature. Any level of book fanaticism is welcome.
Inspired by Kinna Reads' Africa Reading Challenge, I decided to create an offline space to share my newfound appreciation for African literature. If you are interested in reading books from the African diaspora (with emphasis on authors from Africa and the Caribbean), join us!

Guess what! You are not the only person who finds it a bit challenging to make new friends at a nightclub. You are also not the only person who is concerned with having money to pay for important things (such as shelter and the occasional dentist appointment, maybe) but unwilling to surrender to a life of Stouffer's frozen dinners! Welcome to Cheap Eats, Good Reads. Here are the goals of this group: 1) Meet friends. 2) Eat good food that is also cheap. 3) Talk about interesting things. Every mon …
These are the voyages of the Western Suburban Science-Fiction Book Club... Our continuing mission: to seek out the most compelling, discussion-provoking science-fiction (and occasionally, fantasy) novels and gather together to chat about them over dinner. It's a pretty good mission. Reading sci-fi suggests certain nerdish... leanings, but don't be afraid: our group is all-inclusive. Yes, I'm sure a few of us qualify as geeks, but we're all socially well-adjusted and reasonably freshly showered t …

Our ladies-only book club started year ten together in Oct, 2012. That is > 100 book shared. Meetings are filled with lively conversation and fun related to the book themes. At every meeting, we tie in food or an activity. We usually meet on the far northwest side of Chicago (near Devon & Central in the neighborhood of Edgebrook). Public transportation is excellent. Members are all ages and stages of life, from college to retirement. We are also on facebook as a private group. Many meetings …
There are several book clubs out there but they either seem to be disbanding, specialized or for women only so I decided to start this one. I am the former organizer of a large book club in Nashville which, I'm proud to say, is still going strong and I hope to bring that same success to this one. I had the opportunity to read a lot of great books I may not have picked up on my own and I hope to be introduced to even more! This is a co-ed bookclub that will meet once a month, at local coffee sho …
This is Book Club for those who have a passion for reading. We will select books that are simply so good you have to talk about it ! If you have a book you have read and you want to swap with someone that would be great too. If you have not yet read the book but have heard about it. We will read our fav parts and hopefully motivate you. Men and women ages 18 and up are welcome.
If you would like to read those books that you feel you ought to have read but have never gotten around to it, then this is the group for you. Book selections will be chosen from "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die," edited by Peter Boxall. The list of books, which comprises selections in many genres from the 1600s-2000s, is in the Files section. We try to have two meetings per month. The main meeting, which I organize, is dedicated to a more modern classic (post-1900) while the second meet …

South Suburban Ladies of Literature is an up and coming bookclub that will allow members to venture out and read new and exciting books from all genres. Thank you in advance for your interest!* Hi there! I used to belong to a wonderful, monthly book club, but due to a change in my work schedule, I was no longer able to attend. Love good wine, reading books, & discussing ideas with other friendly people? Then come join us at our monthly discussions while enjoying wine at House Red! The goal is to have fun discussing & sharing our thoughts & ideas on the literature we've read over glasses of wine. The group is new (Spring 2012) & was started with a small group that met at a wine bar. We're growing now & would like to welcome new members. I've noticed many groups are women only; we aren't gender restrictive, but you must …

This is a book club dedicated to exploring great writings about the environment. We will discuss both the great past works and their influence on society as well as explore the pioneering notions and ideas found in the present literature. Field trips, lectures and other activities will supplement the reading (or provide a way for our fellow Naturalist Book Lovers to get to know each other better).

Celebrate your freedom to read! BANNED! is the perfect book club for anyone who enjoys reading and thinks that literary censorship has gone a little too far. We will be working through the Banned and Challenged Book list from the Radcliff Publishing Course Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century as well as the NCTE Banned and Challenged Book list and will be discussing not only the book, but why it has been banned or challenged in the US and if we agree that it should be banned from our libraries and …

This is a monthly book club that will meet on the last Monday (evening) of the month & discuss the books that were read. The meet up place can change from coffee shops to personal homes, where ever the wind takes us on the north side. A new book will be decided after every meet up based on participant votes. The book club is supposed to be relaxed and social & to bring people together who love to read & want to meet new people in the north side neighborhoods.
This a book club for women "of a certain age" who love to read and and enjoy a variety of Naperville area eateries.
Let's get together to discuss some excellent books over fantastic food. We'll meet monthly on a weeknight in the Evanston/Rogers Park area. No background in lit crit necessary, but we will all try to read the books and have thoughtful insight. And a joy of eating is perhaps a must. Fiction and non-fiction are on the table. Initial book ideas include Fic: The Known World (Edward P. Jones) Tenth of December (George Saunders) Telegraph Avenue (Michael Chabon) Vampires in the Lemon Grove (Karen Russ …
I would love to meet other women in the Skokie area who are working professionals and love reading! Let's start a book discussion group with slightly older women, 50ish, who would love to laugh, talk, and enjoy great books!

This club is for anyone (chico or chica!) who loves to dive in and digest the wisdom from authors like Williamson, Chopra, Dyer, and so on. I started this group because the only thing I love more than reading these books is discussing the self-growth and awareness with like-minded folks! We'll start by taking a few weeks to read the same book and then meet discuss our impressions in the Streeterville/Gold Coast area. My hope is that this group opens up hearts and minds, along with formulates n …

Meeting to discuss our own poetry. Working out chinks in the armor, making improvements, listening for sounds, searching for themes and generally becoming more self-aware as a writer, as well as learning to become better self-critics. And of course a good place to chat with other poets and find community, and lay it on thick with pet peeves regarding the state of poetry. We would also go to occasional readings and maybe if everyone is up to it to an Open Mic as well. We will begin by meeting o …
Do you love to read science fiction and fantasy? This is the book club for you! We meet once per month in various Naperville area locations. Join us to meet other sci-fi/fantasy book lovers and have a blast discovering new books.
We hope to critique each other's drafts of all sorts in a mutually supportive and awesome environment. This group is invite-only to ensure that we stay tiny (hence the name). We meet about twice a month and share drafts to read a few days in advance. We're into all sorts of writing styles, from humorous to serious to abstract. Many of us are sex-positive feminists; if you're not down with that please don't apply.
We are an established book group that is looking to expand our membership. We meet at 2:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month. We are co-ed; most current members are over 40 but we welcome members of any age. We read fiction and non-fiction; usually books are chosen by group consensus.
This is a group under Salvation & Deliverance Ministries that is open to all. Our purpose is to encourage a Christ-centered group where we can grow in love for God, God's Word, His people, His work and one another through reading books that teach such things. We are a fellowship for all who seek a closer relationship with God and others. CTM is a positive alternative for Christians (or anyone interested) to share their faith, fellowship, coffee and tea in good company, with others who are like-m …
This group is about making friends over a good bottle of wine and (hopefully) a great book. We will pick a book each month and meet to discuss the likes, loves, and dislikes. Would like to branch out to other adventures once this meetup starts to help foster friendships. All are welcome.
