The Great Books Reading Group is not a literature club. It is a discussion group that uses a multidisciplinary approach to learning and exploring the past and present. We are reading from the St. John's College Reading List. As we read foundational texts in the Western tradition, we examine mysticism, history, theology, the earth and physical sciences, mathematics, philosophy and government, as well as art, literature and music.
wine & reading. we're college grads who just moved to DC and want to start a book club. we will be reading anything & everything: literature, philosophy, theology, poetry, science. we'll meet roughly every two weeks, and decide what to read next at each meeting. be ready for a good time
… In addition to reading and discussing books, I would also like to meet new people and spread my friendship circle outwards a little bit. Anyone can join. If you love reading (especially non-fiction) and are interested, just join the group and we will figure out the logistics later. I hope to speak to you all soon!
This meetup is designed to help non-speakers learn to speak, write and read the Yoruba language in a fun, friendly and casual environment with a yoruba speaker. I'm an African who learned to speak and read the language at the early age of 9. Will love to help others do the same! :) I'm not a teacher or tutor, (not yet) just a lover of the language. Will like to try and help! We can have fun coming up with cool ideas to learn and have fun with it. I may be able to help with Pidgin English too …
New Meetup Group! The purpose of this group is to form a circle of individuals interested in reading and discussing libertarian books. We will be reading works from the likes of F.A. Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, Frédéric Bastiat, John Locke, Thomas Paine, Ayn Rand, and many more. As libertarians in this era we are on the defensive as we espouse the fruits of liberty from both a natural-rights and utilitarian perspective. Our goal is to deepen and broaden our understanding of liber …
I have recently graduated college with an engineering degree and found myself with...free time? It's a startling concept, but within this free time, I've started reading classics, philosophy and science books that I've been dying to discuss, but alas cannot find participants. That, my friend, is why this meetup exists! Hope there are others that enjoy reading a wide variety and range of topics that explore our physical, metaphysical and perhaps even pseudo-physical philosophies and theories. I'v …
After reading 'The Shack' by William P. Young, I began this quarterly reading club to challenge myself to read (opposed to pacifying my mind with computers, TV, and movies). I was in the library club in elementary school, and I lost the joy of reading leisurely. 'The Shack' renewed my interest!! Most books I've read can be read within a week for those who make reading a priority. With an abundance of obligations (i.e. church, work, school, [oh yeah... and self]), it takes me a little longer to c …
This is just not another tiresome meetup book club that follows some predictable path well trod by about a million other meetup groups. First, we aim to energize your reading life by presenting a rich menu of unexpected offerings rather than a boring genre-specific diet. We will read delightful fables, profound novels about every aspect of the human condition, comedies, plays, thoughtful (but accessible) works of philosophy, as well as a variety of serious political, social and cultural med …

A small book club for 20-and-30-something ladies and female-identified people to meet once a month and discuss a work of literature--primarily fiction, maybe with an occasional work of nonfiction thrown in. I started this book club for three reasons: 1) I miss discussing books after reading them, the way I used to in school, 2) I'd like to make more friends in Baltimore, and 3) Book clubs are best when they're small, and I just wasn't able to find a small one to join in Baltimore! Join this grou …
Lez Read is one of P&P's newest book groups. Our first meeting will occur on April 13 at 7:30pm in our discount bookroom downstairs. Monthly discussion about reading, publishing, technology, and the future. We're pretty open about topics - since we don't know what books will be in the future. The format is typically two 25-30 min. speakers (including questions) and a 25-30 min. period of roundtable discussions amongst a sharp-minded audience. The purpose is to find out what people are working on that may affect the Future of Books and reading and who are the people that want to keep abreast of what books may become. We're a …

Do you like to read? Do you like to drink? Then this is the book club for you! Once a month, we will meet in a bar to discuss a book we've all read. This way, we can socialize with other readers, unwind with a beer, and hear some great commentary on a work of fiction or nonfiction. Every month we'll discuss a different book, which will be announced ahead of time. I'll make the final decision for which book we end up reading, but will gladly accept suggestions via e-mail, Message Board, or in per …

Escape Reality is a place where friends can come together for lively and meaningful discussion about books of all kinds while enjoying some good food, good wine, and great company! Meetings are two Sundays of each month at 5:00 pm. Members will be able to take turns suggesting readings. We believe that variety is the spice of life and that everyone should have a chance to break out of their comfort zones so we don't limit what we read to any particular genre or type of novel, we want to get a li …

The Ladies of Leisure Book Club is for women who love to read and socialize. We will meet once a month (sometimes once every two months) to socialize, have fun, and enjoy a meal while discussing the book of the month. To mix things up a bit, we will take in a movie from time to time and discuss instead of a book. I'm inviting you to join us if this sounds like a group you would enjoy being a part of.
Have you noticed that once you get busy with your job, pleasure reading falls by the wayside? Everyone wants to read more, it's just hard to find the time. So let's combine books and socializing! We will meet in local federal hill establishments once a month to discuss our book, drink some wine, meet new people and have fun! Join us!
