The modern book group of today is in some ways still a push for women's intellectual autonomy. Think of this book club as a refuge for women who want to cultivate their minds outside of our current culture's norm of watching television or films. This is a casual, laid back, friendly book club discussion about the books we are reading. This book club meets in the Saint Paul Midway area. This book club may or may not be currently open to new members. Due to the personal nature of book club discus …

We are a group of young (Late 20's to Early 30's) girls who love to read. We meet at a coffee shop in Eden Prairie to discuss our book of the month usually on the third Thursday. Some of the books we have read so far are: The Time Traveler's Wife, The Secret Life of Bees, Water for Elephants, Moloka'i, Wild, The …
We are a diverse group who meet monthly to share our observations, insights and sometimes personal lessons, we find in the Great Books that still change the world. For anyone interested in discussing and reading great books on politics, technology, culture, and history, this is the club for you! If the meetup gains traction, we'll come up with a system for book selections. For the first month, though, I have gone ahead and picked out "Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson. Even if you haven't read the book of the month, feel free to show up and listen to what other people are saying about it.
The original Not Oprah Approved Book Club! Since 2008, we have been reading Oprah shunned books and we would love you to join us! Our meetings and members are quite laid back. If you don't like a book, you don't have to finish it (please give it a try though - first chapter or even first few pages). The meetings are half talking about the book and half catching up with each other. New people are always welcome! Members select books as a group at each meeting. We want your book suggestions. Any t …

Do you want to meet new girlfriends, but are maybe a bit shy? Do you love to read? Are you looking for something to do besides hitting the bars? Then join this group! I moved from Duluth a few years ago and have a much smaller group of girlfriends down here now. I wanted to participate in something where it's possible to meet other women of the same age group with similar interests, while avoiding the downtown bar scene. And so, the book club was born! If you're 25-35, like great conversation an …

Welcome to the Childhood Nostalgia Book Club! This is a Minneapolis and St. Paul based traditional book club with a delightful twist. Just like most book clubs, we meet in a local Twin Cities venue on a monthly basis to discuss a selected novel while enjoying good company and drinks. However, instead of focusing on the current NY Times best seller, our book club reads a piece that was enjoyed during our younger years. This group is most likely to be enjoyed by women, though any grownup who appr …

Do you easily get lost in the pages of Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler, William Gibson, China Melville, Alistair Reynolds, Dan Simmons, Neal Stephenson, and/or Connie Willis ? Have you seen the film "2001" _and_ read the Arthur C. Clarke book? Do you comb the list of Nebula award finalists for rising sci-fi authors? Then this group is for you! The group will mainly focus on recent sci-fi, although I won't mind a little excursion to Philip K. Dick or Ray Bradbury. The sub-genres of the texts we e …

This is a group for anyone interested in writing Middle Grade and Young Adult stories and novels. We will meet twice a month; one time to quietly read and then openly critique 8-12 pages from something you're working on, and the other time to just take time away from our busy day to focus on writing for an hour or two. I'd like to find 5-8 other writers who want to form a little community to help each other and improve our own writing, while sharing successes. You do not have to be published to …

This is a group for those who love ideas, culture, great conversations, and staying active all year long. We read works of (primarily) fiction with a strong sense of time and place, ideally written by an author from the locale in which it’s set. Traveling the world in our reading, it seems only fitting that the discussion be also on the move! So we take our conversations out-of-doors for a walk around our wonderful local Twin cities neighborhoods, lakes, parks, etc. and conclude for final though …
Metaphor is always with us in: what we read and write; what we see in media, film, T.V. and photography; in all forms of the arts, including the art of telling our stories from poetry to cultural fables to personal story, but it is also embedded in psychology and education. Metaphors are powerful and enrich our lives, but they also can have destructive impacts or sell us down the garden path making us think we need things that we don't. This Meetup will look at the art of metaphor. I will bring …

Yes, really, here's another book club. Do I have a fantastic uniquely creative concept to draw you in? Well, I like to think I am moderately creative, but basically I just want a group to read books we all select, get together for a glass of something and a few (hopefully decadent) snacks and seriously talk about the book we have read. I have been in other book clubs and they did not work out for me because of location, meeting day or time, or because they just fell apart. I hope to structur …
