ATTENTION WRITERS: No Meetups will be scheduled this summer. We will resume in the fall. Each month we read and discuss a book devoted to the craft of writing. "Do I have to read the book?" Although technically not required, it is preferred. Although the discussion can move off onto tangents, the focus will be primarily on the contents of the book. However, if you do not have time to read the entire book, reading SOME of it is perfectly acceptable. Even digesting a few o …

Who Am I? I wanted to make this group because I am so busy with kids and work that I am neglecting my favorite hobby: READING! Who Should Join? If you are a mom with young kids who loves to read and wants to make some close friends through the coming years, then this is the place for you! I narrowed the area to Cedar Park/Leander so that none of us would have too far to drive. You're welcome to join from other areas if you're willing to come up here for the meetings. What About The Books? …

How our food is made, where our food comes from and what our food does to us, taps into a lot of the pressing political issues and challenges of the 21st century, like peak oil, globalization, worker's rights, environmental and health issues. This book club is dedicated to reading and discussing the work of authors that write about food and whose books relate to political issues of our life time. We meet about every six weeks on a weekend day at Book People Downtown. Please bring your book and n …
This group exists to motivate its members to learn more about software development and management. At meetings, each person discusses something he or she has recently read (such as a book chapter, Wikipedia article, news article, or a piece of software itself) or created (like a simple Twitter clone) in turn in a small group. It doesn't have to be profound. Our members have discussed lean startups, OOP, being RESTful, literate programming, Scrum, and other topics. Join us if you're interested i …
This group is being made to help nurture and build individual scripts in progress or being started. We will have an ongoing bi-monthly or monthly small group meeting where we could continue to help, brainstorm, and nurture ideas for regular members of the group. I'd like to have the same small group of people go from the beginning to the completion of a screenplay and have this group help to create the best possible product possible. Please have a script idea or a portion done which can be sent …

… These books have had a greater impact on my life than absolutely any other spiritual/philosophic work or teaching or whatever else, and it's been a joy to share the information with people over these past three years, since I first picked up Book 1 from a used bookshop in Arizona. Reading these books (and listening to the audio versions) is always extraordinary... it is a genuine experience, and I cannot explain the intimate connection I have with the content. I can, quite seriously, say that th …

As a newbie to Austin who needs to make some new girlfriends, I thought that creating a group that mixes my love for reading AND my love for good food was a win. It's not only a great way to meet new friends but also a surefire way to get to know some local eateries too! To get an idea of the sorts of books we'll read I would say that most of it will be contemporary fiction, although I'm open! Personally, I read mostly fiction and quite a lot of YA, especially fantasy/sci-fi.
We are "other" worldly explorers... seeking knowledge and answers from within regarding the issues that we live with on a daily basis. We seek answers to those questions that creep into our minds when the world is resting... like "What is MY purpose?", "How can I improve my work/personal/family/lover relationships?" or "Where does this planet fit in the Universe?" Trance Channel can provide answers to those inner questions OR using Past Life Regression and Hypnosis, you can find those answers wi …
This is a group for readers who love "The New Yorker." We'll get together and discuss articles and follow wherever the conversation takes us. Should be a great way to connect to like-minded folks for great discussions about the arts, politics, and interesting people and places.

Like to read for fun and want to expand your horizons of the almost endless Thriller and Mystery books and authors? Lisa Scottoline, James Patterson, Walter Mosley, Ted Bell, have heard the names but never read their books. By submitting to peer pressure maybe you can find a new great author to follow. Let's go with books written within the last 50 years. Discover new books, authors and …

Blackberri Cafe Single Lesbians Book Club is a book club for a unique group of women – designed for single lesbian women who enjoy reading literary fiction, nonfiction (i.e. history, politics, pop culture, memoirs), and whatever else the group agrees to read and discuss. Why single lesbians? Well, why not? Our aim is not to exclude, but single lesbian women in Austin rarely get a chance to fellowship and discover shared interests and experiences with other single lesbians. Plus it's very difficu …
